I’ve been using Ubuntu Mate 16.04 (Beta) for a little while and really like it. One of my favorite things is tilda (drop down terminal). The default keyboard shortcut is F12. But since I’m using my MacBook Pro and I prefer to have the media keys available, I have to press fn+F12. I use tilda a lot, so I wanted a more convent keyboard shortcut. I decided on command+t. To change it you need to edit ~/.config/tilda/config_0 You need to change key = "F12" to key = "t" or whatever shortcut key you want. You will have to log out and back in for it to take effect.
